According to a Harris Interactive poll, Google is the company that is most respected company in the U.S.
In the poll conducted by Harris Interactive, the population size considered for the survey was more than 30,000 respondents, meaning that the survey was conducted taking into account, the response from more than 30,000 respondents. The survey identified 60 most visible companies in the U.S. and the respondents were asked to rate them on 20 different parameters. These parameters included attributes such as social responsibility, financial performance, emotional appearance and leadership.As a result of survey, the result was dominated by technology companies. Most of the companies in the top positions were technology related companies. At the very first position, stood Google. Harris Interactive rated Google as 84.05/100 points on reputation scale. The cut-off for any company to be rated “excellent” on reputation was considered 80. Other technology related companies making at the top of the list were Apple at no. 5, Intel at no. 6, Amazon at no. 8, Sony at no. 14 and Microsoft at no. 16. These companies were having score of 80 or above out of 100 and rated as “excellent” in terms of reputation in the market.
The companies that scored low in reputation and thus were towards the low bottom of the list were mostly insurance conglomerates, oil companies and banks. The company at the extreme bottom of the list was AIG with a score of 47.7/100 on reputation. The second last company on the list was BP with a score of 49.82/100. BP is the same company that was responsible for the worst oil spill in history. Other companies that were towards the bottom of the list were companies like Comcast, Delta Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, ExxonMobile, General Motors, Bank of America, Chrysler, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs.
It is interesting to note that Google, inspite of having various issues with the Government and several privacy concerns is still the most respectable company of the United States of America (USA), while others which is so much supported by the Government like General Motors, Bank of America etc are towards the bottom of the list.
