Nokia is one of the most renowned companies in the world known for its mobile devices. It was at the top of the world for many consecutive years. Almost everyone has used a Nokia mobile phone in their life time.
The Symbian Operating System by Nokia ruled the world for almost a decade. But during the last few years, things began to slow down and the company began losing market share to its competitors. The main cause of this was lack of Nokia mobile phones dominance in the smartphone category of mobile devices. In the lower range of mobile phones too, Nokia lost market share to local brands and cheap Chinese mobile phones.
The newly appointed CEO of Nokia, Stephen Elop announced plans of Nokia to make a comeback to the market with Windows Phone range of devices. This plan was made by the CEO in February of 2011. After nine months, today we see that Nokia has come up with devices which are loaded with Windows Phone 7.
Two Windows Phone 7 devices were launched by Nokia at the Nokia Word in the UK. These two devices are – the Nokia Lumia 710 and Nokia Lumia 800. Both these devices run on Windows Phone Mango OS which is the latest operating system by Microsoft for mobile devices. These both devices are also equipped with Nokia Exclusive apps like Nokia Music and Nokia Drive.
The new Nokia Lumia 710 is a mid range mobile device. It has 3.7 inch screen. It’s made up of plastic body and is all covered up with attractive colors. It seems to be targeted at the youth. It’s price has not been announced in India as of now but the general expectation of this device is somewhere in the range of 15 to 25 thousand rupees.
The Nokia Lumia 800 on the other hand is a device which is little on the higher range. It is made up of premium metals and can be seen as a hardware cousin of Nokia N9. Again the device has not been priced in India as of now but the general expectation of the market is that the device would be priced somewhere between 25 to 3 thousand rupees.
Both the devices from Nokia are expected to arrive in India before the end of 2011. Nokia has huge plans to launch Windows Phone to the Indian public. Let us see how Nokia plans to introduce these devices in India.
Nokia also has Asha range of devices to be launched in countries like India. Asha range of mobile phones from Nokia would generally appeal to Indian consumers mainly because of its cheap price and boast of features held within the device such as long battery life, music player, internet enabled phone etc. These features are generally preferred by Indian consumers and when these are combined with low price, you know that its like icing on the cake for Indian markets.
According to D Shivakumar, Vice President and Managing Director of Nokia India, “Our target share should always be more than half of the total market…I think we would be able to get there in 2012 by focusing on great innovative products, great delivery and experience at retail points, services and content integration”
