Young girls banned from owning a mobile phone

Muzaffarnagar incident of mobile ban magnetfish

In this age where owning a mobile phone has become an absolute necessity of life, the village council of Muzaffarnagar, which is a city located in Uttar Pradesh state of India, has banned girls which are unmarried to use a mobile phone. Unmarried girls were no longer allowed to use mobile phones.

This news may be shocking for most of us but its true. The reasoning for not allowing young girls to use mobile phones was that the girls use these devices for contacting their boy friends and planning for running away from their houses. The officials wanted to prevent such acts of girls running away from their house with their boyfriends and so this ban was imposed.

The panchayat has imposed a ban on the usage of mobile phones by unmarried girls to prevent them from eloping with young boys against the wishes of their parents.

Khap panchayats have been known to run their state of affairs like that of Hitler and because of such culture, nobody questioned such decision taken by them. In the age where having a mobile phone is considered personal device of communication, that freedom is also taken away by the panchayti raj.

What next? Ban on Cyber cafes 🙂
