Hitachi has developed a new HD display. It is a 4.5 inch IPS LCD panel. The new display built by Hitachi is built on amorphous silicon based TFT. The screen resolution is of 1280 x 720.
It is a new type of screen developed by Hitachi that consumes less power than the existing smartphone screens. Existing smartphone screens which are currently being made are made on a low temperature polysilicon (LTPS). This material takes much of the power which is the basic reason why smartphones consume so much battery power because of their screen. Another thing which is bad about the existing screens is that they have a lot of wiring in them, which is solved by Hitachi.
The new screen developed by Hitachi offers 1,100:1 contrast ratio. It also provides a retina display like of 329 ppi. The viewing angle of the display is at 160 degree both horizontally and vertically. The brightness of the display is at around 500 nits HD goodness.
On top of all the above mentioned good points, Hitachi expects that this display would help industry to reduce manufacturing cost per unit as producing this display panel will be comparatively cheaper than the available display panels. It also promises to increase the battery life of all the gadgets that it is put on to as it consumes much less power.
