There have been around 2 months since we last heard any news relating to Aakash tablet. Well, there is some good news for Aakash now.
There have been upgradation of Aakash tablet which is the world’s cheapest tablet. Aakash 2 would be upgraded to the latest OS Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is all set for production from July or latest by August 2012.
The latest Aakash 2 was launched at IIT Bombay. The company behind the manufacturing of Aakash tablet is Datawind.
According to Mr. Kapil Sibal, IT Minister of India, “Aakash is no longer just a device that only consumes content. Through the efforts of IIT-B, Aakash is now a device that creates content.”
Mr. Sibal also said that there was some delay in the completion of the overall Aakash project but did not provide any information as to why the project was delayed. Mr. Sibal said, “Unfortunately, there was some delay in taking this project forward for reasons that I don’t want to go into now,”
Aakash 2 has undergone many upgradations in the whole journey of its improvement. It has improved Operating System and processor. There has also been improvement in the battery as well as touchscreen. All these improvements would ultimately benefit the end user.
Aakash 2 Tablet – Price
The price of Aakash 2 has been set at Rs 2,263 (INR) only. It is the world’s cheapest tablet and would be distributed to the students of educational institutes first and later to other people.
Aakash 2 Tablet – Features and Specifications
- Aakash 2 will come with 2GB of internal storage memory
- It will have 256 MB of RAM
- Aakash 2 tablet will have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Operating System.
- The tablet will feature 800 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor
- It will have a 7 inch capacitive multi touchscreen
- Aakash 2 will have Li-ion Polymer 3200 mAH battery. This would give tablet a total of 3 hours of working back up time
- Aakash 2 will have Wi-Fi and GPRS facilities along with SIM and mobile functionality
- There is also a microSD card slot and USB port provision in Aakash 2 tablet.
- Aakash 2 tablet will not have 3G capability
