Android’s latest version for tablet computers has been officially announced and this means that updates will slowly surface on Android enabled tablets. Companies that have already started to include this OS in their device are Samsung in its Galaxy Tab 10.1, Motorola in its Xoom, Acer in its Iconia 500 and Toshiba in its Thrive.
Just last month gadget maker Huawei has claimed to come out with the world’s first 7 inch tablet that uses a dual core processor and Android’s Honeycomb. Android 3.2 is “an incremental release that adds several new capabilities for users and developers. The new platform includes API (application programming interface) changes and the API level is 13,” this was posted on Google’s Android Developers Blog.
Main features of Android 3.2 are its
- New fill-screen mode: a new zoom-to-fill screen compatibility mode, which “renders the application in a smaller screen area and then scales the pixels to fill the current screen.”
- Media files can be loaded directly from the SD memory card: the system has been modified such that files can be directly used with apps that use them from the SD card.
- Optimizations for a wider range of screen sizes: developers can now look for screen sizes other than 10.1 inch
- Extended screen support API: provides better control to the developers and helps them target screens by their dimensions.
