In countries such as South Korea, Android has emerged as a real king. Android has captured 70% of the market share in South Korea.
As many as 10 million people use Google’s Android in the country which has a smartphone base of estimated 14.1 million people. The second place is occupied by iOS, which also has significant number of users in South Korea.
In the numbers released by South Korea’s top mobile carriers, the picture looks something like this:
- SK Telecom Co : 6.18 million subscribers
- KT Corp : 2.06 million subscribers
- LG Uplus Corp : 1.86 million subscribers
South Korea is a country that has very near to 100% tele-density. And the above three companies shown are the main operators that operate in South Korea and serve to a population of about 48 million.
In South Korea, LG, Samsung and Pantech are the three main manufacturers of smartphones. These are followed by HTC, Motorola Mobility and Sony Ericsson.
Platforms such as Windows and Symbian are almost nil in South Korean smartphone market. There is information that KT Corp has sold around 2.5 million iPhones till date in South Korea.
