Last week when Google+ (Google Plus) opened up to the general public there was a huge rise in the traffic that was seen by Google plus.
According to estimates by Hitwise, the week ending 24th September, 2011 had a total of 15 million U.S. visitors hitting the site. If we compare this from the previous week just before 24th Sept, where the traffic stood at 1.1 million, we find that the rise in traffic is more than 13 times. Now that is a huge jump for any site.
The rise of 13 times in the number of traffic was the result of Google opening up the site for general public and it was five days after the opening up that he huge figure could be reached. If we look at Paul Allen research result, we find that there was a 30% jump in traffic just after two days of opening up Google+ (Google Plus) to the general public. The research showed a user base of 43 million users.
It was interesting to note that Google+ (Google Plus) opened up the site for general public in the same week when several bold steps were taken by Facebook to renew its look and feel. It’s a smart strategy by Google to make this move at the time when Facebook made its move so that it could attract many more of the users.
Because of this move, Google+ (Google Plus) moved to 8th position in the world of most visited social-networking sites of all times. It is just after MySpace which enjoys 7th position in the list. In the previous week Google+ (Google plus) enjoyed 54th position in the above mentioned list.
Looking at this, we can soon expect Google+ (Google plus) to beat Facebook. But when will that day come, we are yet to witness that.
