Apple’s recently launched Mac app store is proving a draw for consumers and publishers as well. Launched just few weeks ago, The Mac App Store is to bring all of the latest and greatest Mac OS X programs together into a sorted and search-able directory. It’s like a search engine, but only for Mac software. The store makes it dead simple to find, purchase, install and update applications. It’s also a source of free programs.
Though it has received quite a good response till now, some say there is still a lack of killer content for it to be successful. It is for this reason that Apples has now introduced ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ in their list of applications. Call of Duty 4- a game of testosterone-fueled run-and-gun action is expected to add the necessary spice to the App Store.
Call of Duty 4 though released in 2008, is still hugely popular among the gamers. With amazing special effects , including rim lighting, depth of field and character self-shadowing thrusts the players into a battle like never before. With 13 million copies already sold of this game alone, Apple which has just launched the game in its Mac App Store, is trying their luck with the same.
Apple’s undoubtedly hopes that it will be a big hit, but that depends on how it does in Mac App Store. Unfortunately the pricing could mean that the experiment might fail before it has even begun: Call of Duty 4 has been priced at a whopping $49.99 on the Mac App Store. Whereas on Amazon it selling at a price of only $32.
With digital distribution expected to overshadow physical games sales in 2011 – a trend which is unlikely to reverse – Mac users will be hoping that the initial price premium will settle down as more publishers adopt the Mac App Store.
