The country having the largest energy consumption capacity in the world is China and it is China only that faces the worse power shortages in the world. Both the above cases are true due to the huge population that resides in the country.
But now there is some good news for China. China is building the largest power transmission line in the world. The capacity of the power line is worth 37 billion KWh transmission on an average annually. This transmission line will be 2,210 Km in length. It would set record for being the longest power transmission line in the world. The expected date for the completion of the power transmission line is 2014. There is a plan from State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) to connect Hami prefecture in Xinjiang – eastern region with Zhengzhou which is the central city.
The total worth of this massive project is estimated to be 23.39 billion yuan which comes close to around US $3.7 billion.
This is a very ambitious project being done in China. This project aims to transmit power from the western region of China to the eastern and central regions. The western region of China is relatively richer in supply of electricity.
One question that is on everybody’s mind is that whether such a large project is economically beneficial. It also involves technical challenges about the overall efficiency of supply of electricity. But in spite of all this, China is going forward with the project as it is not always good to look for economical benefit. The outcome of the project can only be seen when the project is finally complete. Till the time this project completes, everybody in China is hoping to see less of power cuts and power shortages.
