Diablo 3 is the game that everybody wants to play. It is the fastest selling PC game in the total history of gaming industry. Recently, Blizzard had announced that it had sold more than 3.5 million copies of Diablo 3 in the first 24 hours just after the release of the game. These many amount of units sold makes it the fastest selling PC game ever.
During the first week of sales, Blizzard estimates that the total amount of copies of Diablo 3 that it sold were more than 6.3 million. These figures are based on data from distribution partners and internal numbers that the company is having.
However, the launch of the game was not as smooth as the company wished for as there were many gamers who were not able to play the game. The reason for this was that there were many servers of Blizzard that were overwhelmed by many user requests that could easily run into millions.
This situation created many negative sentiments among the users especially during the first two hours after the release of the game. One interesting thing about Diablo 3 is that the game does not require any online connection for playing the game. Online connection is only required as a means of protection form piracy of the game.
But all these negative feelings did not affect the sales of Diablo 3. The sales of the game are excellent as expected from any game of calibre of Diablo.
According to Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, “We’re definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live”. He also said that, “We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward.”
