Facebook has been named the top searched word on the internet for 2010. This has made it two years on the trot for Facebook. Experian Hitwise has come up with a list of 1000 most searched words for the calendar year 2010. Experian Hitwise is a branch of Experian Marketing Services. The word Facebook and its four variants form 2.11% and 3.48% of the total searches on the internet.
A staggering figure of 4.18% of the Top 50 is the share of searches related to social networking space in the past year. Of which,’ Facebook login’ was at the 2nd spot climbing from last year’s 9th spot. Others on the list were YouTube, Craiglist, Myspace.
Facebook’s share has risen 207% compared to last year. Similarly, YouTube grew by 106% and AOL grew by 22%, their share in the Top 50 of the US being 1.12% and 0.36% of the searches. Craiglist, at 0.62 was marginally beaten by Google, at 0.63.
New entrants in the list of Top 50 searched terms in the US are- Netflix, Verizon Wireless, ESPN, Chase, Pogo, Tagged, Wells Fargo, Yellow Pages, Poptropica, Games and Hulu.
