Western Digital which is the world’s largest manufacturers of hard drive is under tremendous pressure these days. Because of the floods in Thailand, the company has halted its production in Thailand.
Apparently, most of the Western Digital’s production takes place from Thailand itself and because of the floods, it would not be able to operate in full capacity and ultimately the company has to suffer from major supply shortage. Thailand accounts for almost 60% of the company’s total production capacity and failing of this gives the company a major set back.
Floods in Thailand have killed more than 280 people since July this year and has damaged property worth in billions. Not only this, almost two-thirds of the country faces problem of floods in Thailand and is seriously becoming a major problem for the country.
Western Digital has already shipped close to about 54 million hard-drives in the quarter which ended in June this year. Of all the production that was made during that quarter, about 60% were made at the Thai plant in Bangkok. The remaining amount after 60% were made in Malaysia which is very close to Thailand.
Many companies including Western Digital such as ON Semiconductor, Microsemi Corp. etc have reportedly experienced huge production disruptions in Thailand.
