Google Plus appears to be a product with high vanity-metrics but very low at engagement-metrics. It has succeeded in attracting users but has failed to compete with Facebook as it has little to keep its users occupied.
Promoting the site will bring in users undoubtedly but all the vanity metrics goes in vain if they fail in engagement-metrics. The engagement quality of Google Plus can be rated like that of Orkut and thus is definitely low when compared with Facebook.
Google has hooked Shahrukh Khan (SRK) to promote its recent social networking site. Google is also promoting King Khan’s latest movie Ra One on Youtube. It perhaps seems to be a vice-versa pairing.
The desperation to hit the records seems to have brought the two together. Google Plus is running after vanity as it cannot afford to fail whereas SRK wants to ensure that his Hollywood inspired, Ra One is a super success.
Basically, what I believe that Google Plus needs to focus hard on its engagement metrics and thereafter work for its promotion. Every social-networking site freak is joining Google Plus for sure but is still sticking too Facebook. The Wow marketing is still lacking for Google+.
SRK promoting Google+ will definitely draw the audience towards the site but the question is, Is Google+ ready? Do they have innovative engagement applications in the product? The answer uptil now is a big NO! Google Plus needs to pull up its socks in the engagement forte. Until then users must watch the video of The King Khan and Google India Head, Rajan Anandan (declaring their partnership). Shahrukh Khan will carry out live chat on Google Plus.
