Google is testing out a new feature which allows users to port their existing cell phone number to Google Voice. This means that any user of Google voice just needs to have one number and that can serve as home, office or personal number.
Users can set rules as to where the call should be forwarded to depending on day, time or Caller’s number. Its pretty much like there are filters to E.mails.
Google Voice users can port any of their existing number into Google Voice for a fee of $20. For porting you need to cancel the existing contract with your carrier and port it to Google Voice.
Here’s a statement from Google:
“We’re continually testing new features to enhance the user experience. For a limited amount of time, we’re making the Google Voice number porting process available to users. We don’t have any additional details to share at this time, but plan to offer this feature to all users in the near future.”
The new feature will surely take time to get used to.
