According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster and his team, the new iPad 2 is all sold out after it’s first week of launch.
Muster conducted a survey on Apple retail stores over the weekend. According to them, that the total number of iPad 2 sold out in the market is between 400,000 to 500,000 during it’s first weekend. It is performing much better than the original iPad figures which was sold at around 300,000 units during the first weekend after it’s launch.
Historically, we have seen that Apple always shares such data as thhe total number of products being sold during it’s first weekend. Particularly, this data is shared if the the launch is a grand launch. We can expect the data about iPad 2 total sales figure during the first weekend soon from Apple in a day or two.
Munster and his team also conducted a special separate survey on a population of 236 people who were in line waiting to buy the new iPad 2. It was found out in survey that 70% of the people turned out to be new to the device. It was further found out that out of 236 people surveyed, 51% of the people were Mac users and 49% of the people used PC other than Mac. It was also found that 65% of the people surveyed had an iPhone and 24% people owned a Kindle.
Through the survey, it was also found out that 6% of the people were only planning to read with the iPad 2. These figures indicate that the iPad 2 is not at all perceived as an e-reader. It has created it’s own identity in the minds of consumer and it is liked not only by people already using Apple products but others as well. It has created it’s own niche segment that is not fulfilled by any other product till now.
Seeing all the above findings, we can say that iPad 2 certainly has a long way to go. What areyour opinins about this great product from Apple, feel free to comment.
