MANGO – which is newest version of Windows Phone 7 OS, has reached the release to manufacturing stage (RTM). Expectations are rising that by this fall, Microsoft’s mobile Operating System will be available on handsets throughout the world.
In simple words, RTM stage means that development of Mango is all done by Microsoft. Now no more development needs to be done on Mango from Microsoft. All that is left to be done is in the hands of handset manufacturers and mobile operators. The handset manufacturers will now optimize the Operating System based on their requirements for individual devices so that it could run successfully on their devices.
According to Terry Myerson, Chief of Microsoft Windows Phone, – “Here on the Windows Phone team, we now turn to preparing for the update process“, he further added, “The Mango update for current Windows Phone handsets will be ready this fall, and of course will come pre-installed on new Windows Phones.”
Microsoft initially unveiled its new OS for Windows Phone 7 (Mango) in May this year. The main focus of this OS by Microsoft is to improve communication and ability to multitask. It also focussed on Internet browsing. This new Operating System by Microsoft includes support for mobile version of Internet Explorer 9 and advanced HTML5 support. It also includes new features like the Threads which is a fusion of IM, text and Facebook Chat.
Microsoft has a long road ahead in mobile space division. It has certain advantages like the recent partnership with Nokia, a strong knowledge pool and smart and intelligent employees. But it has a long way to go in order to compete with giants like Apple and Google whose mobile operating systems – iOS and Android are major forces in the market place today.
