In a mad race for electronic tablets, finally some sense has prevailed by dropping the prices of tablets. If we look at the tablets, we find that the shelf life of these tablets are comparatively very small. The shelf life of tablets is even smaller than devices like mobile phones and keyboard.
Given the above facts, Motorola and Asus has dropped their prices for tablets. Motorola Xoom is now available for Rs 29,999 (INR) and Asus Transformer is now available at Rs 29,622 (INR). The tablets have now crossed the magical barrier of 30 thousand.
Why are prices of tablets coming down?
There are many reasons as to why there is drop in prices of these tablets. Among them the primary reason is increased competition and availability of cheaper alternatives in the market. Among others, are low sales, a possible new product launch or retailers just got bored with the inventory with them. With respect of the two tablets from Motorola and Asus, the drop in price is probably because of combination of low sales, availability of cheaper tablets and increased competition.
There are many tablets in the market that have even broken the price barrier of 10 K price range. Many tablets that are hot in the minds of consumer include – Beetel Magiq, Reliance Tab 3G, Spice Mi720 and Mercury mTab. The price at which Motorola Xoom and Asus Transformer are available in the market do not exactly satisfy the expectation levels of end consumer, given the hefty price which they need to pay.
There are more tablets on the way with Lenovo and Amazon announcing their own versions of the tablet. The general expectation is further cutting of the price and companies going for price wars in order to gain market share and lure end consumers.
