The launching of an Open Government Platform (OGPL) for accelerating the growth of general information around the world is based on a US version of Data.gov platform which is by the government of USA and India.

Accordingly, National Informatics center from India and Data.gov from USA agreed to develop such platform which provoked other countries to join this collaboration for making their data known to all including Africa.

Additionally, the reservoir of the OGP on github shows ‘page not found’ syntax.

Initially, India did launch data.govt.in for testing purposes only prohibiting its use by common people and allowing only specified people to check and provide feedback of its feasibility result to them but later on it is assumed to provide data related to agriculture, health, and energy.

Sam Pitroda informed that though releasing data to mass is not a cakewalk but a tough decision to make. Yet they would be releasing all types of information like transportation, sanitation, water etc. in near future except those related to defense. He also recommended that organizations are not keen towards making its data public as in India the system of copyright avails with many of them to hide their performance in past like Indian Railways informed Data.gov via IRCTC to not to window its data to mass…

Kapil Sibal, Communication and IT Minister of India stated that showing of data to the general mass is the best tool for increasing transparency and vitality among the government and its people because this will strengthen the relationship between government and its citizen and also tries to upgrade its technology, procedural and administrative jeopardies which will help to manage and answer various questions like who owns the data or what data is being owned etc. Thus, the bottom line is this that the sooner we realize the better for all of us it is!

This platform is made up of two sub parts i.e. internal and external module. Internal module includes ‘the dataset management system’ through which different agencies bestow its information on the system like datasets doc, web services and applications. The external module facilitates the acceptance of the information and presentation of the same to its headed catalog which enables an easy access of data downloading, and ranking displayed under different classification.

There are other such queries which were answered in the press conference like the proper publication of necessary data, no license or software need for data usage, ease of access of downloading, creating mashups, and pulling data into web services by general public and providing feedback of the service provided to them. Moreover, the improved facility of providing a ranking system to the site tourist and sharing their views and suggestions regarding datasets and allowing data to be pulled in to websites and blogs would enable the community development. It would also enhance the relationship, transparency, and sharing between different government agencies and common people. Using the advanced technology for meetings, collaborating and sharing through Skype, github, Google doc would be a milestone in government-people records of virtual team

The Chief Technology Officer of the US Government who induced the fraternization last year was the “Anish Chopra” who was credited at the launch!
