Review: Air India International Flight Services To London

I used Air India for my Delhi – London direct flight in Early 2012.

Before booking the ticket, I searched for Air India reviews on the web but was not able to find one. I had heard a lot (rumors mostly) about Air India’s frequent cancellations, strikes, Lost baggage, Delay, Payment gateway failures etc. I thought of writing this post to help other fellow passengers who want to fly Air India but due to negative air around it are not confident enough to go ahead and book the tickets.

It all started when I wanted to book a New Delhi – London Flight for January 2012. I searched all the popular sites and even called some local travel agents. Fare wise the best available was on airindia.in, the official Air India site. But the OTAs and local travel agents said that Air India’s payment gateways fail all the time and the customer support is also not very helpful, so it was best to (pay extra and) book via them. I still went ahead and booked directly with AirIndia.in as it offered me significant savings. Not to my surprise the whole process was very smooth and the payment gateway used was CCAvenue (the same which powered these OTAs – who were telling me that Air Indis’s payment gateway fail most of the time).

On the day of flight it departed on scheduled time and arrived at London 50 minutes before the scheduled time. And yes all my baggage was safe and the same holds true for my fellow passengers. The In flight services were also pretty decent and the best part was that due to the rumors many prospective customers (like me in past) opt for private and other carriers and hence quiet a number of seats were empty – which allowed us to take a nap in the middle row (Unlike Jet and other carriers where it is jam packed and you just sit on your seat for 9 straight hours).

So in all I would like to advise my fellow passengers to not believe in all these false negative rumors around Air India like – loosing baggage, payment gateway failure, never on time etc. I traveled with Air India and their services were pretty much what any other airlines offers. They have good customer support and are quiet reliable.
