Looking for a new high-quality TV at a price that fits in your budget? Here we have a few tips to shop for a HDTV at a low price.
On a few deal sites you may find a 40 inch, 120 Hz, LED-edgelit 1080 pixel TV of a small company at just $500. Then why to pay heavily for the models of LG, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and Vizio?
But unfortunately, HDTV specs mean getting less than what you have thought. Purchasing LED lighting or a 120 Hz refresh rate of a small scale company does not confirm that you shall get the image quality similar to that of a high-tech model of the top 5 TV manufacturers. Cheaper sets usually fail the tests especially when talking about the color accuracy and motion-heavy scenes. Besides this, hardly a few manufacturers, other than the big 5, offer 3-D and internet-connected features. A few of them that do offer, have a below par quality.
From this you mustn’t conclude that purchasing a cheap TV means compromising on the quality and technology. Here are a few tips that will help you buy a high quality, top brand TV in your budget.
Wait for the launch of seasonal models – The big TV makers usually launch seasonal TV models at low price to hit the holiday shopping season. On the deal sites, you can get a 40 inch plasma TV with additional features at a price around $600. These models may not appear as good as the expensive ones but are definitely much better than the non-brand sets.
Purchase last year’s TVs – the Consumer Electronics Show is held exactly after the holiday shopping season. This is where the TV makers make maximum big announcements for the year. The new models do not hit the stores till March and thus most of the last year’s TV sets are available on discounts during January and February. Such models do not come with various fancy TV features or the latest 3-D glasses, but they end upto be good TVs at discount prices. Image quality is not affected much from year to year, so you won’t be left behind. In a test the Samsung PN50C6500, a last year 50 inch plasma model had the same image quality compared to other 2011 TVs (both LED-backlit and plasma LCD)
Never forget about plasma – LED-backlit HDTVs are the latest today, but LG, Panasonic and Samsung still manufacture more plasma HDTVs that are huge and also less expensive compared to LCD/LED models providing the same image quality. One thing to remember is that LCD/LED HDTVs cost less to operate than plasma sets and plasma sets do not appear good if there is a lot of light in your room.
