According to Domain Name Industry Brief Reports published by VeriSign, there was an increase of about 7%, in domain name registrations in all Top Level Domains (RLDs) in 2010, third quarter.
As a result of this, the total number of domain names that existed in the world came to around 201.8 million domain names. In this 201.8 million, the figure of .net and .com combined were above 103 million. New .net and .com that were registered in the third quarter of 2010 were around 7.5 million.
One of the interesting facts that was discovered was that the percentage of English-speaking world was less than 40% of the internet users. There was rapid increase in the internet users from Africa. A decade ago, Africa had not even 5 million users. But, now it had more than 100 million users. The total number of internet users in Asia was found to be far greater than the internet users of Europe and North America combined.
These figures tell us, that internet is penetrating heavily in the less developed economies and the next internet bubble will be in Asia and especially Africa.
