The long awaited uTorrent version 3.0 Beta was officially released by uTorrent team recently. It has loads of exiting new features in built in it such as torrent ratings, streaming, comments and various other exiting new features.
uTorrent was first released in September 2005 and soon it gained popularity and became the most widely used BitTorrent application. Today, it has close to 100 million users throughout the world who are effectively using the client regularly and this number is rising day by day.
Recently, the beta version of uTorrent 3.0 was officially released by the uTorrent team. It contains significant improvement over it’s previous versions. All the new features that have been embedded in this version have been extensively tested over the last months.
The most significant feature that was added was the option to comment and rate on torrent files. This feature was the 4th most requested feature in the “Idea Bank” of uTorrent. The users also have the option to rate torrent files by awarding them one to five stars. Comments and rating together tries to give the users a fair idea about the various files downloaded by the users.
Another very important feature added by the uTorrent 3.0 is the option of video streaming before the download completes. Streaming becomes useful to preview video files or to watch videos while the files are still being downloaded.
The user interface of the uTorrent 3.0 has also improved providing a “simplified view” which allows the users to focus on the most essential client features by minimizing parts of the interface provided by uTorrent.
Now you can also send files direcly by using the “drop files to send” area which is provided at the bottom left hand corner as shown in the figure. This feature makes creating and sharing of torrents very much easier and sharing and creating torrents was not so easy before. uTorrent also has portable mode to conveniently carry it using any USB stick.
Simon Morris, VP of Product Management, BitTorrent said that “Our design goal is to simplify the way people interact with uTorrent while continuing to offer and expand features and expert capabilities.” He further added “This will likely broaden the appeal for many users while maintaining the technical capabilities popular with power users.”
He further added “From a functionality perspective, we’re taking two approaches. First, embed high-demand features like streaming, ratings and remote access that are valuable to many users. Second, creating the ability for people to add-on features via the Apps platform… We have an active roadmap for uTorrent for 2011, and the company. We see uTorrent as offering an ideal file sharing experience with deep insight into the background data. Ideally, such a client would enable someone to find, get, play, send, and shift large files over the Internet”
