Vodafone has given a boost to its app store that it set up in India in March last year. The re-launched version has been named as Appia and will serve as a ready platform for many application developers to offer their free and paid apps. This will open a door to more than 1000 free apps for subscribers.
This application store will have apps for a vast array of handsets and different platforms like Android, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, Java and will classify them into categories like entertainment, social media, gaming, etc. it will give a market of more than 145 million Indian subscribers of Vodafone to local app developers like Hungama, India Games, Nazara, Spice and Vodafone’s branded apps like Portfolio Tracker, Vodafone TV, and Chhota Comics.
These applications will be made available on both 2G and 3G networks of Vodafone and will also be available on GPRS. To access the Appia, Vodafone subscribers can SMS <VStore> or <Apps> to 111 from their GPRS-enabled handsets and click on the URL in the response message. They can also access the apps by logging on the Vodafone India website and selecting the Vstore link on the Vodafone Live homepage.
The network of developers and distributers that Vodafone has for its storefront and for end-to-end services is making Appia happen. The store has currently more than 3500 apps across all major systems and they support a wide variety of handsets making it one of the vastest and best application stores by mobile operators in the country.
