Whishtel, which is a Mumbai based company, has launched two tablets called Ira and Ira Thing. These two tablets fully support 23 Indian languages.
The price tag of Ira is Rs 4,000 (INR) while that of Ira Thing is Rs 5,500 (INR). Both the tablets run on 800 MHz processor which has been designed by Taiwanese chipmaker VIA Technology.
The Ira has a TFT LCD resistive touch screen. It has 2 GB of storage space and is equipped with 256 MB of RAM.
The Ira Thing has a capacitive touch screen. It has 4 GB of storage space and is equipped with 512 MB of RAM.

The design of the tablet is such that the Indian language pack for the Indian environment is included within the Linux kernel of the gadget. With the help of this gadget, the user would be able to view and type the regional language of their choice. They would also be able to see menu options in their preferred regional language. The tablet also features Native Apps such as eBook reader that would allow the users to read any content in their preferred regional language.
The company plans to sell Ira and Ira Thing through a dedicated network of around 350 distributors. It plans to sell these tablets to educational institutes. It also plans to sell digital textbooks and multimedia to the educational institutes through these tablets.
The tablets which are made by Whishtel are made through the specifications and precision which were specified by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Rajasthan. The tablets Ira and Ira Thing are factory made in the factories located in the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Ira and Ira Thing has been made as part of the National Mission of Education through the ICT and has been sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources.
The popularity of low cost tablets has been on the rise in recent times specially after the announcement of Aakash Tablet by Kapil Sibal, on behalf of the Indian Government.
