A report from market research firm, IDC shows that there was a substantial growth for Apple iPhone market share for the first quarter of 2011.
There was increase in Apple’s iPhone shipments from 8.7 million in the first quarter of 2010 to about 18.7 million in the first quarter of 2011. Because of this massive rise, the market share of Apple increased significantly from 2.8 percent in 2010 to 5.0 percent in 2011.
Because of this massive increase in market share, there was an increase of 115% ( 114.9 percent exactly) in the growth of the company. These figures were the largest growth figures for any manufacturer in recent times. It puts Apple at position no. 4 on the list of top vendors of such products. According to IDC, this list does not include OEM sales for all vendors.
According to IDC reports – “The company posted the highest growth rate of the worldwide leaders.” “Apple’s results were buoyed by strong sales on Verizon Wireless and additional carrier deals.”
If we look at the list, we find that Nokia is at the top of the list with 108.5 million shipments and 29.2 percent market share. But if we look at the growth figures we find that it has grown only 0.6 percent with respect to previous year.
Samsung on the other hand stood second with 70 million shipments and 18.8 percent market share. There was growth of 8.9 percent for Samsung as compared to previous year. The third place was grabbed by LG Electronics with 24.5 million shipments and 6.6 percent market share. LG lost growth means there was decline of LG by 9.6 percent with respect to previous year.
Apple took fourth place and the fifth place was taken by ZTE. It had the second highest growth with respect to previous year. It shows that while companies like LG is declining in terms of growth, other companies like Apple and ZTE is fast rising in terms of growth.
