The world’s cheapest tablet computer, Aakash, will be made available to the market by Datawind, its makers by December of this year. The product has generated considerable demand in the market as reported by Datawind’s CEO, Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli. He says that they have received pre-bookings from individuals up to the tune of 108,000 units and another 2.2 millions units in corporate bookings. The company hopes that tying up with operators will generate a further sale of 100,000 units.

Since Reliance is planning to roll out its 4G services in January next year, Datawind is in talks with Reliance to produce the world’s cheapest 4G enabled tab. Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli was quoted as saying, “We have had preliminary talks with Reliance Industries. It is possible to embed a TD-LTE (long-term evolution) chipset in the tablet for 4G coverage. To begin, this December we’ll launch a GPRS-enabled tablet at a price (MRP) of Rs 2,999 with some Indian operators. Once 4G services are launched, we’ll have a product in that space too.”
