Kindle – Amazon’s Latest Success Story

In today’s telecom world every player is trying their hand on Smartphones with all sorts of possible applications in them to stay in the market. In a battle like this no body thought that Amazon’s ‘Kindle’ a single-purpose reading device would hold any good in the market.

Amazon wasn’t innovating fast enough and most industry “gurus” doubted it would stand a chance in the market. Instead of following the trend of building a product which competed with the Apple’s iPad and smart phones of that level. Amazon tried something entirely new- a reading device that is relatively simple to use, light weight and most importantly inexpensive. The third-generation Kindle starts at $140; the Apple iPad begins at $500.

For Amazon, this tactic seems to have paid off because those who denied Amazon’s chances of performing well are proven wrong. The company said on Monday that the third-generation Kindle is now the top-selling product it has ever offered. With that news, some in the tech industry were undoubtedly taken aback, especially considering Apple, the company that typically wins out in battles over consumer electronics, hasn’t been able to outright dominate the Kindle.

“We’re seeing that many of the people who are buying Kindle also own an LCD tablet. Customers report using their LCD tablets for games, movies and Web browsing, and their Kindles for reading sessions,” Mr. Bezos said in the release. He says that being easily affordable people don’t mind spending a small amount for a good reading device.

The Kindle has struck a chord with consumers with the Kindle e-book software available for nearly all mobile devices. Making it simple for customers to read books on an Apple iPad, Amazon Kindle, Google Android phone as well as a desktop computer. Now you can continue reading from were you paused and change the device as well, as it is irrelevant of the Kindle hardware.

The Kindle is widely credited with sparking off the growing trend in e-readers, as customers are quickly becoming accustomed with the Kindle bookstore no matter what reading device they own. But Apple users have to be picky in their choice of hardware.

To be ahead of the game Amazon has to continuously be innovative else there many players like Google Android phones and Apple that are waiting to grasp the spot.
