According to a senior executive from Google, Google will announce the sales of a new Chrome laptop at US $20 per month as a “Student Package. The announcement from Google will be made today. This laptop from Google would include both, the hardware as well as online services provided by Google.
Google Apps which is very similar to Microsoft Office (having calendars, spreadsheets, word processing and other office productivity software) is an online product and this is sold to business for US $50 a year. This laptop by Google would be sold in a way, mobile companies sell mobile phones by selling the handset and calling connections in a combined plan.
The Chrome Laptop could be added to the Google Apps for a small premium. By this move, Google is trying to make students get experienced with their products, so that when they become adults, they could be the driving force for generating demands for their products. The students when would become adults would definitely be having expectations of working in cloud based systems.
According to the Google Executive, “Small and medium-sized businesses are banging on our doors to get something like this.”
Google has always tried and given break through products to the world. The office productivity system which is browser-based could also promise to be one of such products, where it could provide more control over what employees do online. Google also offers the ways in which companies can prioritize and set where an employee can go and various levels of employee accessibility of internal as well as external data.
Google may however face some difficulty in trying to solve the working of Google Apps in offline mode when there is temporary disconnection from the web. Executives at Google said that the company is very close to solve this problem and soon such problems would no longer exist.
