Apple, on Tuesday introduced its latest iPhone, iPhone 4S.
It was around 4 years back on June 29, 2007 when Apple unveiled its first iPhone and since then it has come a long way. The device has become the first choice of the tech-fanatics. It has given a real touch competition to the leaders in the market like Nokia. Here we will take you through the four generation journey of the iPhones to figure out how they became the Smartphone king in the short period of four years.
First Generation: iPhone
Steve Jobs, the creative genius revealed the first iPhone on Jan 9, 2007. The gadget was launched officially on Jan 29, 2007. It had a scratch-resistant glossy glass covered screen along with a 2 megapixel camera. It was released in 4GB, 8GB, and 16Gb models. The phone did not support GPS. A 620 MHz processor and 128MB Ram powered the device. At that time there was no white iPhone.
Second Generation: iPhone 3G
After the success of the first generation of iPhone, Apple unveiled iPhone 3G in 22 countries across the world (India was not amongst them). The device was available in 8GB and 16GB models. It supported 3G networks. There was no alteration in the screen size and camera resolution. The downside of the first generation iPhone, the lack of GPS, was omitted in this edition. The RAM and processor were the same.
Third Generation: iPhone 3GS
Apple revealed iPhone 3GS in June 2009. It was earlier launched in US, Canada and six European countries. After a week it made its debut in Australia and Japan. In another two months the device was released globally. The phone has a 3.5 inch screen with a fingerprint-resistant coating. For the first time iPhone had been made available in a 32GB model. The device had upgraded 833 MHz processor, 256MB Ram, 3MP camera and even VGA videos could be recorded.
Fourth Generation: iPhone 4
iPhone 3GS was rocking the market and had overruled the sales of Nokia Smartphones. After an year of its launch Apple knew that its users had higher expectations from them and were eagerly waiting for a new and advanced iPhone. It was on June 24, 2010 when Apple unveiled its iPhone 4 in US, UK, France, Germany and Japan and after a year in India. This fourth generation of iPhone was the biggest upgradation brought about by Apple in the history of iPhone. It had a high-res Retina display, 5 megapixel camera along with LED flash, a front camera, the FaceTime technology and loads of apps.
iPhone 4 was great for video calling and could also record HD videos. The phone was launched in 16GB and 32GB models. It was for the first time that Apple had launched a white iPhone. The device enabled its users to do multitasking.
Fifth Generation: iPhone 4S
After loads of speculations and rumours, Apple came up with its latest iPhone two days back, iPhone 4S. The fifth generation iPhone lacked Steve Jobs as he had by the end of August handed over his position to Tim Cook. The new iPhne does not have much to boast of. There is little upgrade with a slightly faster processor, improved camera and sensor.
Within a duration of four years and four months iPhone has crossed various milestones but its fans are still waiting for more. People are waiting for an awesome and innovative iPhone 5.
